aka American pokeweed,
this interesting and handsome plant needs
full sun to partial shade and a moist, well
drained to light soil. It has a strange scent
so is best grown at the back of a border
where it gets to just over 3' tall. Its
handsome flower spikes look best in groups
and it's hardy. The sap can be a skin
irritant to some and the berries are
poisonous, to humans though beloved of
birds.
