pink or deep beige flowers in June above
scalloped leaves. This unusual and striking
plant makes a wonderful display if planted in
large groups. It needs a sunny moist, well
drained border out of cold winds. H 6' S 3'

This is a wonderful
fern, aka the Shuttlecock fern. We have it
planted along the edge of a shady border and
watching it grow and unfurl each spring is
one of life's simple pleasures! It's a
wonderful architectural plant whether planted
as we have done, or on its own. Likes some
shade and a humus rich soil that is moist.
Give it elbow room because it does open to
around 3' tall and about 20" wide. It looks
best with some space around it anyway.
Hardy.
Single, sky blue
flowers flowering over 6 weeks on tall stems.
They look best planted in drifts under a
light shade canopy. They can be tricky to get
going from seed, so the best way to establish
a colony is to plant a few pot-grown plants
and then allow them to self-seed. H 3' - 4'.

This unusual plant
grows to a height and spread of around 18".
The leaves are light green and the upper and
side lobes of the flowers are white, while
the larger lower lobe is a red-purple. It
flowers in April and May in any moist
well-drained soil and has fuzzy, honey
scented foliage. It's popular with
butterflies. 2l pot
The Virginian bluebell
is a member of the Borage family and is a
really charming plant with beautiful blue

emerge, too. Flowers in April & May in
shady areas in damp soil.

A vigorous catmint

June to July. Aromatic, pretty, light
green/grey foliage. Forms a dense mound.
Highly attractive to bees and surprise,
surprise, cats!
H. 2' S. 18" Hardy 2l pot
An extraordinarily
beautiful plant whose tubular flowers with
flared ends to them, change into varying
shades of white, pink and dark pink as they
age, so that eventually its multi-branched
stems are covered with vari-coloured flowers
among soft green leaves. It's both lovely and
very unusual. It's hardy with us but would be
tender in other areas so half-hardy perennial
is the safe description of this. H 2' - 3'
Plant in full sun in well-drained soil. Looks
wonderful planted with e.g. Thalictrum
delavayii Hewitt's Double.
This low growing plant
is good for groundcover in some shade. It
makes a spreading carpet with forget-me-not
like blue flowers and is about 8" tall in
late spring. Will grow in any good soil but
performs best in humus rich soil.
aka The Royal Fern,
this grows eventually to around 6' in height
and 14' spread. It is a truly wonderful,
giant fern. Plant it in a shady, damp spot
near a pond in good soil. Fully Hardy.
