Hill House Nursery covers 3 acres of lush, green Devonshire countryside in the heart of the South Hams. The nursery is owned and run by Raymond and Matthew Hubbard, a father and son partnership who have lived here for 30 years. Raymond has been in horticulture for over 60 years and Matthew for 25. We have most of the well known and loved plants here, and many rare and unusual ones, too. All our staff are experienced and are able to answer questions and help you choose the right plants for your garden. Most have qualifications in one aspect of horticulture or another, so the collective knowledge is very considerable.
In addition, Matthew offers a very reasonably priced landscaping service and will supply and plant your chosen shrubs and perennials.
The house was originally the vicarage to St Matthew's Church, Landscove and our garden was laid out and planted by the first lay owner of the house, Edward Hyams, a well known plantsman and writer of the 1950s and 60s. Raymond has restored the garden, retaining some of the original planting and adding newer varieties but Hyams's design remains. The 2.5 acre garden is open free of charge to the public who can enjoy tea on the tea-room lawn or wander the garden at will.
We regret that we can't allow dogs here, other than working dogs and it is important that children are supervised at all times as there are several ponds here and it's a working nursery.

Our Tea Room is owned by Raymond and Sacha and is open from March to early October, offering a wide range of light snacks, salads, home made soups, cakes and scones and of course, the classic Devon Cream Tea. At week ends the Special Menu is expanded along with everyone's waistline! All our food is supplied locally wherever possible.
